ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LPG
As petrol cost continues to soar, a number of businesses ,motorists, car owners and operators are beginning to opt for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)as a greater
way to save on their vehicle running cost and to reduce carbon emissions.
In this article we’ll dig on the advantages and disdvantages of LPG:
Advantages;
Cost effective
In kenya, LPG goes for about ksh 60 per litre which happens to be 50% less cheaper than regular both fuel prices
Reduces exhaust emissions
LPG produces fewer emissions because emissions because of
the composition of fuel that contain only short chain hydrocarbons.They are not likely to contain toxic components which are found in gasoline HC emissions. Also the environmental impact of LPG hydrocarbon emissions (ozone reactivity contributing to smog) is much smaller than that of gasoline.
Higher octane rotating
LPG has an octane running of 108 compared to petrol’s number which vary depending on location
Disadvantages;
Poor availability
Compared to petrol and diesel,LPG is not readily available thus few stations offer LPG for vehicles.
Bulky tank
If you have a new car you may spend more money in order to fit the LPG tank inside the vehicle.
Engine easily overheats
The factual behind this is that LPG has a lower density compared to Petrol.This means that more LPG has to be burnt to achieve results that petrol would give and it ends up overheating the Engine .
Expensive installation
To convert a car to LPG will cost ksh 40,000-ksh 60,000,so its advised that if you really want a car that is running on LPG,import a car whose engine is designed to run purely on LPG.
